AirSpace Studio Show - featured artist #10 - Janine Goldsworthy

Nine down, three to go in the AirSpace Studio Show featured artists. Today, we're highlighting Rednile's Janine Goldsworthy.

4 Lands

4 Lands is a series of miniature fantasy islands floating in resin, each artwork is made of layers of concrete found around Stoke-on-Trent.  Each layer contains a different aggregate like layers of sediments, showing fragments of buildings that have gone or fallen from existing structures capturing how our city is always in a state of change flux; building, falling and rebuilding.

This intimate work is a comment on regeneration, showing new beauty in the unloved and unfashionable. 4 lands capture a fantastical moment showing our desire for things not to change and the impossibility of that. The title references Buddhist scriptures of the 4 pure lands.

My current line of inquiry is researching into site considered artworks and interventions that do not oversimplify what defines a place but instead questions the complexity of the social and physical fabric that morphs and changes our beliefs and associations with what defines our environment. I create installations that evoke a sense of universal connectivity, trying to find underlying patterns and symbols in what seems to be everyday randomness.
