AirSpace Gallery - Community Maker

This summer, artist Anna Francis has lead the Community Maker project in the Portland Street area of Stoke-on-Trent. She has joined a group of local residents to explore their community and its future, using food and clay.

During the project, the group have looked at what their community already has to offer. They have planned for its future together whilst preparing/sharing food and making things with clay.

On Saturday, the final event - a Community Picnic, was a celebration of the local community complete with loads of participatory events for all - some wildflower seed spreading, face painting, bicycle-powered spin painting, some cream teas, a bbq and a community-led soundtrack. The sun shone and loads of the area's residents turned out to support the strengthening and development of this micro-community.

At the end of the Community Maker project, the group will share the things they have made during a feast event at the British Ceramics Biennial on Saturday October 3rd.

The British Ceramics Biennial is a series of exhibitions and events held at the Original Spode site in Stoke. This year, over 60 artists will take part in 20 exhibitions on site.
